About the SPOKESpersons

Jim and Jacquie

Jim has always been a cyclist.  Jacquie, however was a runner who had completed over a dozen marathons and half marathons.

In 2007 they met on a fitness singles website. Jacquie now owns one pair of running shoes but, thanks to Jim, has accumulated 6 bikes. A Gunnar Sport (Steel is Real), two vintage Mercians, a Cannondale tandem, A Salsa Vaya, and a Tern folding bike.  Jim, hmmm, we won’t say how many bikes Jim owns.

Together they have taken on a life of adventure. Well as much as their full-time jobs, teenage daughter, 85-year-old cottage, and four dogs allow.

Over the past decade they have completed numerous unsupported, two-wheeled quests. The Ohio-to-Erie trip was completed in 2016; the Great Alleghany Passage in 2010 and 2013, and the KATY Trail in 2011.

RAGBRAI in 2014, along with L’Eroica Britannia were supported rides but epic just the same. GOBA in 2013 was close to home amd Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in 2012 and 2015 was a family affair.

It is the end-to-end tours that sparked the idea of Vega’s Velo Bicycle Transport. The idea of riding 330 miles from your start is incredibly liberating. Until you realize you need to get back.

The name Vega, which means Guiding Light, comes from our best-ever dog. Vega passed away in 2011 but her legacy lives on.

Jacquie and her sisters have run Three Sisters Pet Rescue since 2004. Vega was one of the first dogs, pulled from a shelter in rural Indiana. She was adopted out twice and returned twice. So she became a permanent resident. She guarded and protected our family for seven short, dutiful years.
